There have been so many debates about social media, its place and longevity, its effectiveness, its ROI, etc. etc. etc.

But with the experimental release of Google Social Search and real-time search results rolling out everywhere can you really deny that the reach of social media is expanding, creating new opportunities, and changing the game?

One important angle to consider is:  How will real-time results and social search results change the SEO game?  We’re seeing that every day it’s becoming more and more important to balance our link building methods with our social networking strategies.  This has been a change coming, and foreseen, for some time now but the recent rapid release of game changers in search results (all over the place including Google, Bing, Facebook, etc.) should be a real eye-opener and a real reason to think about your social networking strategies.

People are going to get another chance to make it in top Google results with Social Search and they’re already getting chances to get in via other real-time search results options and moves like Facebook opening up searches to the web.

Social networking is the core of social media.  Your connections are becoming more and more valuable every day.  Social results are having a larger and larger impact on search engine results.   Social results have a much bigger impact on gaining clicks with many people because the results are coming from people they are connected to in one way or the other.  Real-time search results also yield bigger impact on clicks because 1) they may also be coming from connections but 2) they are exactly that, “real time” search results, the latest and greatest about whatever is being searched for; conversations being had at that very moment about it.

SEO is shifting.  Online word-of-mouth marketing is taking different forms and expanding into every crack and crevice of the web.

Many businesses have been unsure of the importance of social media and social networking to them, but now more than ever it’s time for businesses to take a good, hard look at their social presence, connections and strategies.

The Internet changes at a rapid pace.  The more you keep up, the farther you’ll be ahead.  The farther you fall behind, the harder you may have to work to catch up (to your oompetitors).

If you’ve been thinking “social media is a trend, how much or how little I participate isn’t really going to have much of an impact”, it’s time for you to reconsider.

Do these changes and insights have an impact on how much value you place on social networking and social media and whether or not you’ll up your game on social networks?
