When I first started getting interested in Internet Marketing, I tried to build my first website in something like Microsoft Front Page I think. While it was pretty easy to figure out, I just didn’t love it and I wanted to do so much more than what I was able to figure out in there.
My next attempt was Dreamweaver which is a great website builder but there was a lot to learn! So, I decided to try a blog and set up a blogger blog. It worked decent enough but still not enough flexibility.
Then I found WordPress…nice! I went with wordpress.com at first which is hosted by WordPress. It had nice functionality and was pretty easy to navigate. But then I wanted my own domain name! And I wanted even more functionality!
So I switched to wordpress.org which is hosted on your own server. I bought a domain name for about 10 bucks and started with free hosting (then I noticed those UGLY ads at the top of my site and switched to paid hosting!).
OMG, once I realized all of the options and flexibility that WordPress gave me, it was GAME OVER! I was quite convinced that I would never go with any other type of website again!
WordPress is MUCH MORE than just a blog!
It can be utilized as a blog, as a fully functional website, or both!
I can install my choice of thousands of themes, manipulate my site any way I like, manipulate pages, install plugins that do AWESOME things (including helping with SEO, automatic email responses to commenters, and a billion other things), add widgets (like you see on the right side for my social networks, etc.), add forms for a mailing list, and literally anything and everything else I could possibly want to do with my site. Oh, and I found out how much Google loves wordpress sites! Yessss! Jackpot!!! And it’s all SO easy once you know how to do it.
I couldn’t afford to go hiring website designers, etc. so I needed to know how to do it all myself and WordPress makes it ridiculously simple!
So I spent a bunch of time learning about WordPress and how to set stuff up, manipulate pages/looks/actions, best settings, etc. I had to do a ton of searches and a lot of it was still learn-as-I-go. There was nothing out there that just gave it ALL to me in one place.
As time went, I learned more and more by trial and error and by a lot of research.
A couple of years later, I’m totally addicted to WordPress and wouldn’t create a site with anything else if my life depended on it! No freakin’ way! Too complicated in comparison!
You can make any type of website or blog you want; you can make affiliate sites with it; small business websites; big business websites; your own freelance website; and every other kind of website you want!

I’m just over a month into my blog on wordpress and I am amazed at the power. There are so many possibilities with “… there’s a plugin for that” – but at the end of the day content is king of course. I’ll have a look to see what Heather has to say.
