OMG, I have found my saving grace in backing up my hard drive!

How many times do you tell yourself “I need to backup my computer”? I know I used to tell myself that ALL OF THE TIME.  Then about a year and a half ago, disaster struck! I was on the computer and all of the sudden it shut down and smoke, yes smoke, started coming out the side of my computer =(  Talk about heartbroken and frantic!

Mind you, I work from home.  I work with clients, I am a member of various affiliate programs, I have several blogs, I have a lot going on and a lot of info stored on my computer.  My client files, my personal files, my affiliate and blog info and notes, my irreplaceable pictures, and a whole helluva lot more.

Lucky for me, my computer guys ROCK and were able to recover some of my data, but not all of it.  I had to rebuild most everything and it was a nightmare.

So since then, I kept telling myself to buy an external hard drive and frequently back everything up.  Welllll, all I did was kept telling myself that. I kept meaning to but I just never got around to it.

Last month, my computer was struggling to boot up.  OMG, PANIC  MODE! I was praying…PLEASE don’t let this happen to me again; and kicking my self in the ass - girl you KNEW better, you’ve been through this before.  SO MUCH work on the computer, all of my stuff for my upcoming site and social media program, everything, please NO.

I got the computer to boot up (thank you God) and quickly started looking for ways to save my files in case it crashed.  Because I wasn’t sure how much time I had on the computer, I even started dumping stuff on my server to save it in the meantime.

Then I remembered a company from Twitter, yeahhhh Twitter (man, I heart you so much Twitter, you’ve hooked me up so many times!). Mozy.

Mozy is an online backup system. And you don’t even have to remember to back up - exactly what I need. It truly is set-it-and-forget-it. My files are autmatically backed up every 12 hours.  The initial backup takes a while but after that it detects new and edited files, and only backs them up so it’s quick and I never even notice it backing up in the background.

And it’s cheap - my favorite.  Home users get unlimited storage for $4.95/mo.  Businesses with multi-users pay a little more but it’s still very inexpensive and totally worth it.  Now I don’t worry about losing anything or having to remember to back up.  Mozy has my back.  You never know when something can happen to your computer causing you to lose years of valuable data and files.  They say 1 in every 10 hard drives crash every year, you don’t know when you’ll be that 1 in 10.  I was that 1 in 10 not that long ago.

A little more about Mozy:

  • Awarded the prestigious PC Magazine Editors Choice Award for online backup
  • Open and locked file support
  • 448-bit blowfish encryption with private key support
  • Automatic or scheduled backups
  • Block-level incremental backups
  • Mac Client
  • Everything is stored offsite so you’re secure if a natural disaster or something crazy happens that could affect your external hard drive

Run, don’t walk, over to Mozy and have peace of mind knowing that you  never have to worry about your files again!

You rock Mozy!

Update: I have been using Mozy for a couple of months now and let me tell you, every time I see that little box that pops up to tell me my files have just been backed up (I have it set for every 12 hrs because I do a lot of work/create-edit & lot of files daily), I just feel this wave of satisfaction and relief! (I have lost everything before & that’s a sick feeling so this really puts my mind at ease!) It’s the best $5/mo I spend!!!
