So much is happening so fast in the social sphere! It’s exciting and the opportunities are multiplying FAST.

Among the many other social opportunities, we now have Google Social Search, Social Media Game Changers, and now Twitter Lists (it’s more than what you think).

Jump on and brace yourself for a wild ride.

Twitter is introducing “Twitter Lists”.  If you’ve been using a Twitter client like Seesmic, Tweetdeck, etc. this new Twitter list may not sound like a new thing to you…but they are.

Now people can assign others to specific lists they create.  Still sounds familiar eh?  The difference is these lists won’t be contained within your private Twitter client world, these lists will be publicly available.

What does this mean?  It means that you get another chance for exposure if you’re on particular lists.  Let’s look at these lists for a moment and then discuss more:

You can name a list whatever you like and it will look like this (pay attention to the URL):

Twitter lists aren’t public YET but watch for them soon…but Twitter’s team list is public already so let’s look at that:

By looking at these screen shots, the picture is probably coming together.

People will be able to:

  • visit lists, see updates & dig further (i.e., clicking on your profile and/or a link you published)
  • subscribe to lists (and if you’re on them that means they’ll essentially be subscribing to your updates),
  • find you and follow you,
  • associate you with the list (contributing to your expert status); i.e. Social Media Gurus, Top Gardeners, etc.

It’s your Twitter feed being fed into another feed, a targeted feed that will get targeted visitors.

Other benefits:

  • more exposure to your links
  • the URLS are/can be keyword targeted
  • credit for your link on the page
  • if you’re a list creator, people will associate you with the list and there’s a link to your profile at the top of the list so they can check you out and follow you if they like
  • if you’re a list creator, credit for link on the page showing you as the creator

(*I wonder if Google Social Search will start picking up on these lists…it would make senseand if list results will show up in Twitter search results (we’ll see as soon as they go public)*)  If the answers to these 2 questions become “yes” which I’m guessing they will, that’s 2 more benefits.

TIP: If you Tweet about a list, it will be automatically linked to the list.

If you’ve read my last few posts, you’ve noticed a pattern – SOCIAL MEDIA IS CHANGING THE GAME in profound ways.

What are your thoughts on the new Twitter lists  (if you can’t see them on your profile yet, be patient, they are coming) and on the advancement of social media for ‘searchers’ and ‘marketers’?
