Many of you have probably noticed the new Twitter User Interface released a couple of days ago with changes to ‘following’ and ‘followers’.  It’s pretty cool, I love that they are working toward making things better.

It looks like this:

I’ve heard a couple of moans and groans saying that they wish Twitter would have spent that time fixing their servers and capacity issues.  Let’s just look at it as the glass being half-full okay?  They’re working on a lot of things, let them be and enjoy what you have right now.  It’s not that bad.  Frankly, I use a Twitter client and it seems to make me not notice many of those issues or be affected by them.  Don’t ask me why, I haven’t bothered to ask why or check, I’m content.  I can tell the difference in a lot of things when I use the web vs. a client.

Anyways, that was my mini-violin playing in the background for a second.

So, the changes.  Twitter now offers a bit more information about a user so that you can glance over your pages and know where someone is located, what their last tweet said and how long ago it was, and even gives you the options to mention and direct message the person (in addition to the other pre-existing features.

What I would like to see is their bio on that screen.  Because while the changes are ‘nifty’ and moving in the right direction, you still have to visit their page to see ‘who’ they are (by checking out their bio).

This would allow us to know how relative a person is to us – because as you all know from reading my Twitter Relationship Tips, I’m a “selective follower”.  I don’t just auto-follow everyone back that follows me.  It’s just my personal preference and my way of putting the people in my Twitter stream that I am interested in, or who are really interested in me and have shown some type of engagement (even if it’s just to say hi), who share my fields, etc; and, my way of not filling up my stream with the people who really don’t care a thing about me, don’t care what I do or say, and only followed me to get me to follow them so they could sell me something and probably not even provide any interesting Tweets or info, etc.

I’m NOT complaining, I know I just played my violin for someone else, but this is just something I would like to see and hope they will consider in the future.

Then you could basically get a full glimpse of a person right on that screen.

That would make it fab for me to be able to just go to my ‘followers’ page and glance over it so that I can quickly choose the ones that may not have yet engaged with me but that look like they would deliver Tweets that I would be interested in, or people that I may want to talk to about something in particular (network with someone that is in my field, etc.).

But by seeing people’s last Tweet, you might catch a few spammers earlier! Like those ones that only send out @username @nextusername @anotherusername @anotherrandomusername Tweets – yeah you can block them real quick!

And I have already caught a few ‘last Tweets’ that prompted me to visit a particular user’s page.

So, that might be a hint to be mindful of what your last Tweet is! Keep it good and interesting folks!

Anyways, just my thoughts on the changes.  I *heart* you Twitter and while I would like to see some specific changes, I know you’re working on becoming bigger and better so I’ll just hold my half-full glass and keep getting my Tweet on in the meantime!
