I LOVE this new option!
You probably already know this option allows you to automatically have whatever you publish to your Facebook ‘page’ (not profile) to be posted to Twitter for you (*heart, heart, heart*). But what if you’re posting your blog posts to your Facebook page and you already have something like Twitter Tools installed to publish your blog posts to your Twitter feed?
So.
Let me make something clear. If your followers are following more than a handful or two of people and you’re not in some sort of “favorites” list where they literally hang on to your every Tweet, it’s probable that many of your Tweets are missed by them. Use this handy FB feature as a “follow-up” Tweet.
Have your blog publish the original Tweet the way you normally do. Then later in the day, go to Facebook and post the blog post there - which will feed it into your Twitter stream one more time. (Note, if ALL you feed to Twitter are your blog posts and there’s nothing in between, you might want to skip this but many of us make many posts in between our “Twittered” blog posts…but if you’re doing this, you should reevaluate your Twitter marketing.)
(Additional note: if you’re feeding your FB page with imported blog posts, this will post them too closely together in your Twitter feed so don’t do it this way. This works best for manual FB page posting - might seem like one extra step but I’ve found it works nicely for a little extra exposure in your Twitter feed.)
You’ve now given your post 1 more chance to be seen by your Twitter followers. (*hint, if you use something like bit.ly to track links, use the same bit.ly link in FB to help you ‘mesh’ link tracking).
OR, if you have more than one Twitter account, do this:
Have your blog automatically publish your blog posts to your primary Twitter account; set up your FB page to import blog posts from your blog; set up your FB page to Tweet posts to your other Twitter account.
For instance, I have a client who has her own personal Twitter page and several other Twitter accounts that represent her various business endeavors. She automatically has blog posts Tweeted to her primary personal account. I have her FB page set up to import her blog posts and then have them automatically Tweeted to the company Twitter profile that page is related to. Now her blog posts are going to both her primary personal Twitter feed and to her related company feed. …all with zero extra steps or effort. Now she gets views to her blog posts from both Twitter feeds, automatically.
How you utilize this feature will depend on your setup and your goals. Everyone has to evaluate their position and various avenues before they decide how to best use this feature (use #1 above works fabulously for my client’s standalone company but use #2 above works best for the multiple accounts stance). But I would certainly consider determining how it will best benefit you and adding it into your mix; there are a few ways you can tie this in, figure out what will work best for your set up and goals but don’t miss out on this nice little tool.
